Okay, adults like them as well, but its the kids that oh and ahh out loud. It amazes me how quiet they are when they hear it played. Here I am with the largest five hole ocarina made by http://clayz.com/ Ocarina players will need to have fingers of at least ring size 5 to play one this size.
Clazeness also makes some ocarinas so big you have to cradle them in your arms as you would hold a toddler. That giant style uses a different fingering system with more holes. If you tried to use the four and five hole system on an ocarina that size, you'd have to be a giant to cover the holes!
Find our school music program, Ocarina Arena at
http://www.ocarinaarena.com/ A Teacher's Edition book with full lesson plans is included in the program, and a DVD instruction/introduction to ocarina playing for the Teacher.

Do you want to learn to play the ocarina? Or do you know someone who does? Check out the program I co authored with Diane Graham, sold in single and family sets:

  • I bought this same ocarina at Pike Place Market last year and it's become a family favorite. The small pendants are cool and get lots of comments while being worn but they can be loud and shrill sometimes. Both my husband and infant son love the low calming tone of my big blue raindrop, it even puts the baby to sleep!

  • Okay, next up in my videos, I'll do a tutorial for a lullaby on my raindrop. Thanks for sharing that story, it's sweet. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I love mine too.

  • I love that sound. I have a clayz zelda ocarina and i really want to get one of these. Do they make the 5-holes in a smaller size?

  • They do make many smaller 5 holers. If you peek at any of my other videos you can see some of their variety. This "raindrop" style comes in three sizes, and I've got the large one here. They also have a brand new 'mini' of the kind you already have at the same price as yours. Its a five holer and they play very sweetly.

  • Hi!

I bought a small raindrop yesterday, do you remember me?

It sounds weird when I finger the 'English style' fingering. should i finger it differently?

  • I do remember you! Finger English style. Take a peek at my own "video response" above there Called "I have a raindrop" This will help make sure you're holding it right. Be sure to put your left thumb on the fifth hole. If that is tricky, try taping the fifth hole firmly until you can play the first four holes. Also check your fingers to see if you're covering the entire hole. Go across holes, not in. Practice a little and let me know how it goes!
