Whenever playing Pokemon Snap on an emulator (such as Project64, Nemu64, etc), you'll notice it has quite a few emulation errors.

The first thing is that when you hover the camera over a Pokemon, the circle in the middle will not light up, and it won't make the beep. And when you snap, the Pokemon's name won't appear at the bottom. The same goes for Pokemon Signs.

The thing here is, Pokemons are checked both ingame and right before Oak's Mark. The Pokemon signs are only checked ingame. Since the emulators fail to detect the Pokemons (and signs) ingame, they fail to detect any Pokemon Signs, and so you cannot get to the last level.

I have tried this with Jabo's Direct3d, GlideHQ, and Rice Video (updated by Mudlord), as well as the PJ64 1.6 & 1.7 RSP plugin and Mupen64's Hacktarux/Azimer HLE RSP plugin. I also tried using Recompiler and Interpreter and Advanced Block Linking, and hell even 4MB and 8MB, but none of this would work. Hopefully the PJ64 team will be able to fix this soon.

EDIT: Also I have tried Pokemon Snap (U) [!], (E) [!], (J) [!], and (A) [!], but those did not work. And whenever I tried the ROMs with [f] or [f1] etc, they simply crashed the emulator.

  • HINT: If you can't see your pictures, try the following:

Go to "Options," then "Configure Graphics Plugin." A box should pop up- click on the "Advanced" tab.

Now, try checking the box that says "Copy Framebuffer to RDRAM." For some reason this worked for me ( no clue why... o.o;).

  • In the original game, when the Pokeball Cursor passes over something that the game recognizes as something that could be "Snapped," it turned red, and once a picture was taken, for example, of a Pikachu, the game would recognize that it was Pikachu and output its name on the screen. It doesn't do that in the Project 64 emulator and won't recognize the PKMN Signs. I thank QueenCheetah posting the picture thing, it worked for me as well. Anyways, I'm also stuck on the Signs protion to the game.

  • Help!!!! Camera wont move and im using nemu64..... camera wont have a red spot in the center

  • Those aren't the only errors...Diglett isn't reckonized when you snap him in the cave, so he never moves when you take a picture of him thus you can't even get all pokemon...same for Pikachu at the beginning of that level...which means you can't get Ball Pikachu either

  • @80sMeavyHetal Just change the Full Screen Anti-Alising (?) to 2x...it makes it run smoothly again.

  • HOW THE FUCK IS THAT AN ERRO

  • thanks man i going off crraaaazzyyyyy trying to get the pics of the pkm signs thinking it was me but you showed me that its the game itself

  • @QueenCheetah NO FUNCIONA CAPO (y)

  • Yeah, you'll have to just deal with the sound. I usually put it on mute when he talks.

  • @QueenCheetah Thanks for your help, but since I've changed that the sound has horrible lags, it does not play fluidly. I tried some things but nothing helped.

  • @QueenCheetah doing this works but if it slows your fps then take it off then put it back on later to view you snaps

  • @sportsfrieker1 I'm having the same problem. I have a pretty new computer so it's not that I don't think...
