Best part, 2:33. :3

For extra safety i'd also use through bolts to hold the bearings onto the wheel, if the glue joint fails, the end result is not gonna be pretty.

@TheElectricnoob The problem with that is balancing the wheels out after that. The slightest imbalance in the wheels can cause the saw to shake, Iv'e found this out with my cheap 9" bandsaw lol.

@smfield Its main purpose here is to give the blade a larger turning radius, as they are quite rigid and wouldn't have the flexibility to turn on something smaller.

Matthais, that is so cool I can hardly stand it. Thanks for posting this series. I am inspired!

Would adding shallow mortises to the sides of wheel for the bearing flanges be worth the effort over just gluing them flush?
-
@eried Nevermind! I found it in ebay looking the video in HD to see the brand :P nice work Matthias!

What is the name of the tool in 3:08? the dial! I need one to align a platform! Thanks

As if anyone needs another reason not to use these flanges, since they aren't intended to rotate, they will be out of balance.

I don't about Canada, but here in the States, those bearings are available at Tractor Supply, Rural King, Family Farm & Home Stores etc. In the same isle as the Pillow Blocks that they are made to mount in. Also, in the "bag your own" nut and bolt isle - you can get large bolts, that have a shoulder the same size as the shaft the bearings are made to fit on - by the pound.
this is probably a really stupid question but it wont be a first for me. do you know why the blade like to follow the crown? i wouldve thought putting an indent in the wheel for the blade to fit into?

See my videos on making the wheel mounts, and on crowned pulleys for more info..

I thought the point of a fly wheel was to conserve angular momentum and thus promoted a smoother run against a applied load? By using an unweighted wooden wheel does this go against this?

Bandsaw wheels ideally would be as light as possible.
Momentum just makes it slower to start and stop, and also imarts more energy if something goes wrong. It's the motor that powers the cut, not the flywheel.

Is that ball bearing sealed or unsealed? Any maintenance required on that ball bearing after x hours of use?
What spec of a ball bearing gives you the maximum rpms the ball bearing can handle?
Amazing vid mathias, detail is great !!!!

Just regular ball bearings.
