A special religious programme was held at the Sadaham Sevana Temple in Rajagiriya in view of the Sambuddhatva Jayanthi that marks the 2600 years of Lord Buddha's Enlightenment.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and several others including Western Provincial Council Minister Udaya Gammanpila, National Organizer Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe and a large number of Jathika Hela Utumaya members had their heads shaved at the Sadaham Sevana Temple. They will observe Dasa Sil -- ten Buddhist percepts -- for 10 days. The heads were shaved ceremoniously as a sacrifice to mark the 2600th Sambuddathwa Jayanthiy. The programme was held under the patronage of the Ven. Dr. Omalpe Sobitha Thera. The Mahanayake of the Amarapura Sangha Sabha the Most Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara Thera was present.
The Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thera said that a noble pinkama was conducted at the Sadaham Sevana today. A group including 25 members began observing Dasa Sil to mark the Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. Arrangements have been made to conduct training at the Kanduboda Meditation Centre from today until the Wesak Full Moon Poya Day. The Ven. Thera said that this was started by the group including Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka to give a message to society that is to enter the Dhamma.
