Last one from that day, I promise. I was just so happy to have a tuned piano again!

  • Awesome dude. Loving what you do harmonically with this. So I have to ask: in the opening material (which pretty much sets the tonal landscape anyway), were you thinking about what you wanted to do harmonically that resulted in that counterpoint or where you thinking about the counterpoint which resulted in that harmony?

  • @DougDrumUltimAPerry Thanks, Doug. To answer your question, I honestly don't remember. Usually, I'll get either a harmonic or melodic germ idea at the beginning, and often what happens is that I go through cycles of forgetting/remembering it/them throughout the improv. Mainly, I'm trying NOT to think, except that I'm listening for what comes next from inside (or wherever it is). That was probably unhelpful, but it's at least honest. lol

  • I see, that's sort of how I approach improve as well.. but I guess with more thinking lol. Are you pretty firm in trying to let your improve unfold as organically as possible? I guess I've been trying to move into the realm of spontaneous composition (aka coming up with a form on the fly).
