HSUS is pushing for legislation which would make it a felony for the owners of some exotic pets to cross state lines with them. Thus if they are transfered in their jobs or uprooted for any other reason they would have to leave their pet behind.This is cruel to animals and people alike.

Allegra-- Did you KNOW that HSUS left New Orleans with $34 million dollars of direct donated funds from citizens like you and me? They DID NOT spend it to save the animals in peril nor provide sanctuary until their owners could reclaim them! HSUS is being investigated byt the Attorney General of Louisiana there were so many complaints about the missing PETS and missing funds! HSUS is a wolf in a suit with a MBA-- nothing better than a fund-raising organization.

Actually if anyone was wondering the term persuit of happiness is written in the Declaration of Independence not the constitution. The Declaration of Independence is not a legal document.

@GuardofLiberty It wouldn't work because they would only have control over the licensed animals. Most of the licensed animals aren't contributing to pet overpopulation. The point I'm making is I don't want people to get the idea the country is sanctioning irresponsible breeding, which in turn leads to throw away pets.

And yes, most of the animals euthanized ARE from irresponsible owners who aren't prepared for the animals. I didn't say they should have mandatory sterilization become a law everywhere. I don't think it should because it wouldn't work anyway.

@zzzohmy I'm not an expert on the issue, but most euthanizations probably come from irresponsible owners getting their animals from puppy mills, etc.

These things can only be decided on a case by case basis, and making blanket mandates is unfair. Furthermore, don't go claiming you "know what's in their best interest." You don't.

@GuardofLiberty What do you mean by "blanket statements?" Those numbers speak for themselves. Are you saying I'm not addressing the entire issue? I'm sure there are animal enthusiasts who are responsible when it comes to breeding animals. Unfortunately, there are many more who are not.

How much sense does it make for animals to have a bunch of babies no one can take care of, for them to end up in pounds waiting to be killed? We euthanize millions of dogs and cats every year. In that light, mandatory sterilization doesn't look so bad, does it? I have to be honest: this video is bullshit.

Nature didn't intend for us to domesticate animal's period, but where would be be without farming, domestication, livestock, and working animals. If we used your logic, we'd still be hunting with bows and arrows for all our food.

As far as ABANDONMENT goes, domestic animals are abandoned at a much higher percentage rate than exotic animals. Should we ban cat's and dogs too?

Exotic animal owners often exemplify responsible care of animals. Domestic animal owners often do not.
