This video is of my overclocked computer reaching a really high benchmark on 3dmark06. The specs:

-CPU: e8400 stock:3GHz (oc to 4.4GHz on air only) FSB: 1952MHz @1.5volts

-CPU cooler: Tuniq tower with 120mm thermaltake fan~60CFMs of air flow.

-case: Cooler master mystique

-case cooling: 2x(120mmx25mm) fans pulling air in from the front. 2x120mmx38mm panaflow fans (~86CFMs each) pulling air out, 1 for CPU, 1 for GPU.

-GPU: PNY GTX 295 OC to 653/2128/1408MHz core/memory/shader respectively.

-Memory: Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) OC to 976MHz @2.1volts DDR2 Dual channel memory PC2-6400. 4-4-4-12, 2T timing.

-Memory cooler: Dominator memory cooler blowing air down on them.

-Motherboard: Asus P5Q rev A3 ver 1501 p45 motherboard.

-Power Supply: Silverstone Strider 1000watt power supply. Model st1000.

-Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor 10,000 rpms, 150GB.

-Monitor: Viewsonic 22" 5ms response time.

-Mouse: Logitech G5

No sound card as the motherboard has 7.1 ch sound and is quite adequate.
The side panel was uninstalled to allow better air flow. Specially the exhaust fan for the video card.
The reason for the little screen under the hard drive is because alot of air was escaping the side and not getting to the video card.
This the most I think I can get out of this system using these component. In the future i plan to upgrade my case.

  • ROFL at the comments. /rant StaticxMako you are sooo wrong. It is 1 card with 2 PCBs and 2 GPUs. Quad SLi doesnt mean 4 cards. It means 4 GPUs. Take into consideration the New GTX295 with both GPU's on a single PCB or CARD as you call it. You still can't have 4 of them. Sli has nothing to do with cards and rather the GPU count. /end rant

Nice PC and score. Im surprised you're not getting more out that card. Nice OC on the E8400 btw.

  • Give me an example of a higher score with similar setup.

  • 295 is 2 cards...... srry but typical of a nv user

    had to be said man

  • its 1 card, with one connection to the motherboard, it has 2 pcbs and 2 GPUs, but it is still just one card.

  • i wonder how much power does your rig draws from the mains.

  • @CyBeRproductionz Should, it fits on AM2 and AM2+ which usually means it fits AM3. I wouldn't get a tuniq tower though. . .

  • can the tuniq tower fit am3?

  • fuck with this you can play easely everything on pcsx2

  • computer cases are designed to have maximum air flow there is no point on leaving the side panel off( air is sucked on from the front and sucked out the back). this just makes me laugh. have fun replacing you components after about a year or maybe two of use.

  • lol @ youtube battles. gotta love em

  • @UnknownXV yeh i agree, i dont have any fancy cooling or anything with a similar setup to this guy and i can maintain 55-60 which is great.

  • Indeed I agree with that. If hardware is kept cool and treated correctly, non-overclocked components can last for well over a decade, so there's no real harm in a little overclocking.

Even a high-end overclock if handled right can still last for several years, it's just getting the most bang for your buck. =]

  • Well, ANY overclocking will shorten the life-span of a component, but it's usually worth it. After all, not all that many people will use the same processor for 10 years, or even 4.

Overdoing it is still very possible, of course...

  • Well you're absolutely right in saying it depends on the CPU. However, for this one in particular, the E8400, it has an extremely positive overclocking reputation. In fact a quick search of E8400 here on youtube and you'll find nothing but overclocked versions of it, because it's terribly easy to do.

Now, 4.4 GHz with high voltage, on air... even for this CPU that's stretching it, but it is possible. It'll just shorten the lifespan of the component.
