At Mountain View High School, Truman Avenue in Mountain View on street parking recently replaced where students used to bicycle to school.
Its has been a disaster, and the youth having no safe route to ride to school are riding in door zones between cars or wrong way riding. Both exceeding dangerous.
Either the school needs to allow a trail across the school property adjacent to Truman or the city of Mountain View remove parking during commute hours to schools. There is plenty of open parking on school grounds
Its a clear case of preference given to cars convenience over youth safety.
The adults are teaching the youth that being environmental is a lip service and to ride in the door zone.
Please share this video so all can learn how bad decisions by civic leaders and school administrators can lead youth to adopt extremely dangerous riding habits in the door zones to just make it to class on time in traffic.

At least there isn't a "bike lane" painted on the pavement, encouraging cyclists to ride in the door zone. It looks like an appropriate road for cyclists to take the lane. Perhaps "sharrows" could be painted to indicate the proper riding position to inexperienced cyclists.

Overtaking cars on the right? How is this proper traffic and cooperative cycling. The youths have the responsibility to ride where it is safe, which is outside of the door zone.
