I had it happen on the flying desert eel one (I can't remember WHICH number that one is). I gotta say, it's weird seeing that thing just floating in one spot. EVEN weirder considering it doesn't really attack you at all. And when I shot his energy sources, so he'd fall, he just fell straight down, and didn't move...The only thing that DID happen was his scales fell and rose. IT was weird.

Well, looks like you bumped into the Friendly colossus glitch ^_^! It's a rare glitch that causes certain colossi to stop attacking and just stand there (I had it happen on the 12th colossus).
It's awesome that you were able to capture it since it's so uncommon, 5 stars :)
