Lead-in to the IV chord

Heres a nice lick I like to play that leads into the IV chord. The lick is shown in A, but its moveable up and down the neck so you can play it in any key. What makes the lick sound nice is resolving the blue note (b5) down to the IV note before playing the D9 chord. And guess what, you can play the same lick, but resolve the b5 up to the V and play an E9.

Nah, well the solo has to be in the same key though. But it's better to incorporate some stuff based on the chords, so you don't end up playing just scales.
