Jazz composition "Smiling Skies" by Benny Meroff and His Orchestra, one of my most favorite melodies. The slide show includes photos from 1920s, among which there are captures from Buster Keaton films (The Goat (1921), The Cameraman (1928), pictures of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks in their pool and of Vilma Banky's house.

Many of these pics are taken from Wikicommons (in the Public Domain), some from http://www.shorpy.com and http://roaringtwenties.tumblr.com/

  • I had to edit and re-upload this video, because I'd accidentally included a picture from a wrong epoch in the slideshow. What a boo-boo.

  • This is Bill Davison's first recording (except for one lost). Unmistakable nasty cornet solo by Meroff's hot soloist. Before he was known as "Wild"

  • Oh to have lived back in those days...... I really love this music! Nice pictures too!

  • Great record. Post-Bix Meroff.

  • The fidelity of this recording is amazing. Do you know when it was recorded?
