See the Tea Party Occupy Connection on Face Book https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Te...

It would have been just any mundane clash of civilizations with points thrown and missed until a Mad Hatter in the form of the gregarious Tea Partier appears in the thick of the stand off between Occupiers and Conservatives and says - hey stop shouting at each other - you got at least 60% in common - so lets have some beers (many beers) and discuss this. And so began the Beer Summit an initiative between possibly the minuteman wing of the Tea Party - attendees at the CPAC and some of the Occupiers who came to protest CPAC.

Over drinks, foot soldiers of the left and right explore what they agree on: more than you'd think BY JEFFERSON MORLEY

The Free Republic web site has a fascinating thread from some of the Tea Party members who initiated and participated in this Beer Summit.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-n...

A blog by Jeanne Devon (AKMuckraker) provides good insights.
"The Tea Partiers feel the tail of the elephant and say the problem is this little thing that feels like a rope. The Occupiers are on the other end feeling the trunk and saying the problem is this big long thing that feels like a snake. They are feeling different parts of the same beast, but so far haven't talked enough to each other to figure that out. " There are may more plus a partial transcript of the conversations. See "CPAC-Occupy Beer Summit -- It's a Start"

The Minuteman Project's story "Minutemen, Occupiers And Tea Partiers Share Drinks At CPAC"
"The strange cocktail hour began after Mr. Gilchrist led some of his fellow of conservative conference-goers to visit the Occupiers protesting CPAC outside the hotel" concludes with this """Build a bridge and you'd be amazed at how their grievances are the same as our grievances," Mr. Gilchrist said."" According to a thread in the Free Republic web site, on this Video, the tab came to a whopping $2,200!!! Now there were plenty in the bar and most were NOT Occupy folks. But most who see the result of what it paid for - will admit the outcome was priceless?

The founding fathers did NOT agree on everything. They vehemently disagreed on some issues. But... they drank together. And understood how to communicate and compromise. Any group that thinks they should get all their demands met is FAILSAUCE. Your opponent is not a demon... they are a human with many of the same thoughts and feelings.

Elements in both groups might be described in the American Revolutionary tradition as Anti - Federalists. Both quote from Jefferson. Occupy may also be in the tradition of Shay's Rebellion (begun Aug 1786) - which fought to protect people's farms from foreclosure - while the Tea Party can claim Shay's Rebellion as a tax revolt. It was after this revolt that Jefferson would make his often quoited "a little rebellion now and then is a good thing" (Jan 1787).

It's amazing how productive the discussions become when people speak normally to each other rather than screaming slogans. The majority on both sides seem to be disenfranchised working people who have seen their wages and conditions destroyed by corporate greed and corrupt politicians. Thanks for uploading this video.

If Occupy and the Tea Party together can band together and make politics about ideas again instead of campaign contributions, that will be a very great thing. Even if they end up at each other's throats on every other issue, at least those debates will be worth hearing!

We have to do this together - in all cities, in all states, in all nations for all people

Hostile corporate take over of schools, politics, cities and entire countries will not be tolerated

These are the weapons “Education and truth, Transparency and accountability, and a Voice for all people”

By demanding truth in education we learn from history

By demanding transparency and accountability we see true justice

By demanding voice for all we protect even the smallest minority
