Jonny Octane raps about his 2006 Fender Squier Standard Strat and why it is the best value electric guitar for it's price range. This video is a replacement for the original endorsement posted almost 2 years ago that got vaporized in error. D'oh!

  • Nice review Johnny! Just got one for me (candy apple red). It has a great tone and smooth arm. The bridge is actually nice... holds the tune when using the tremolo arm more than other lower budget guitars. I'm planning to giver a better set of pickups... any suggestions??? Cheers!

  • thanks frederici! i replaced the stock pick-ups with gfs pickups (don't know the model as I bought them used from a pal who installed them for me). I also like fender lace sensor pick-ups for strats. my 77 strat has them and they sound great. good luck! Jonny O

  • @jongreek where can you go and change the pickups on guitar?

  • @brianmadrigal111 , a guitar repair place can do it for you. shouldn't cost much. I was lucky a friend gave me the pickups and offered to put them in as a birthday present. If you're handy, you might even be able to do it yourself or learn how form the web. But I try to find people who know how to do it well vs. taking a chance I end up hurting the guitar.

  • It helped a lot know i bout it. know 3 times a week i play with my cousin and my cousins friend. My cousin plays bass and his friend plays lead guitar and i play riven guitar. And My cousins friend played my guitar and he bout one to.

  • @MrPoppa2 Glad you are digging the axe, poppa..EXP = great tip, thanks. I only play with .10s. .09's are like rubber bands...tone seems better to me with .10s as well.

  • I agree with all you are saying...got a candy red w/maple fretbrd fo 80.00 at a local pawn shop, swear its brand new, still had the plastic on the guard , all original. The first thing is to put some D'Addario strings on it the EXP version, those are magic strings on any guitar! Get the 10/46 size, trust me! Set-up intonation and be amazed! these sound better than expensive Fenders!...poppa

  • Thank you, at last somebody after my own heart.

I have a Squire Stratocaster Standard 1998 and it's the best guitar I have, I'm selling an Eric Clapton autograph BLACKIE to upgrade my squire (and have a bit of spare cash) the Squire is fantastic, better than all the guitars I own and I have seven and they are all Gibsons and Fenders, this guitar just has the edge.

I'm a huge Jimi fan so I'm upgrading the pickups to customshop 69's.

Badge snobs beware this guitar will eat them all for dinner.

  • Thank you for the detailed info--I was not aware of that. It is now June 2009 and the guitar still plays great. Appreciate your insight and expertise! It is a rosewood neck, though, not maple--I have a maple neck on my 77 strat.

  • Are you sure? This is a rosewood fretboard, not maple.
