A very quick explanations of the discussion my 8th graders have and notes we created during class about the difference between scientific theories and scientific laws. THEORIES DO *NOT* BECOME LAWS, only better theories. Of course, this is somewhat simplified.

+1 trillion, this is exactly what I am trying to explain to the kids at my school, but they just don't believe me. At my school, the science teachers teach that theories DO become laws, and that laws are more useful than theories, and that a theory is just a guess.
