No one can beat Diana Damrau and Juan Diego Florez...I'm sorry. They are just simply the best and these two singers don't come close to the clarity of diction and musicianship of J Flo and Diana. Personally, I can't stand the soprano's wobbly voice. It makes for great coloratura I guess, but it's just not a pretty sound. I am also not a fan of the closed nasal sound of the tenor. Sure he can hit an Eb, but it's a mixed head voice and falsetto which doesn't make a pretty sound either. Just my op

Wonderful interpretation by both. Not even some of the most famous lighter voices of our days have impressed me by the truly bel canto style of their singing as these two. The soprano and the tenor don't have the most amazing vocal instruments (though very beautiful), but they have solid technique and, most important of all, they sing with perfect taste, musicianship, in a non-showy, genuine bel canto way. I hope to hear more of both singers.

Chen Reiss endlich mal in einer ihrer Stimmgröße angemessenen Rolle!

Very true, and it's not a D - it's an Eb!!!

Yikes Reiss has a very clean voice...thanks for the post.

I have to say, that was an impressive high D.
I can't believe of all the 343 people who have watched this video, no one has left a comment on how wonderful these two singers. You can feel the vigor, the tentative but flirtatious emotions of Tonio and Marie. And on top of that, the bloody high D (I think) that puts Florez on a lookout spot !!!
Thanks Luindriel for this absolutely magnificent post.
Cheers !
