Riazat Butt visits the Benedictine nuns of the Conventus of Our Lady of Consolation, who have left their Victorian abbey in Worcestershire for an environmentally sensitive home in the North York Moors national park
@notredamedulaus1 exactly...one needs the presence of history and generations in an abbey to find consolation and will and of course inspiration to continue the mission
I understand why they needed to move...but couldn't they have just designed something that isn't so UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The OLD Stanbrook Abbey is a masterpiece of neo Gothic. I understand that it was sold in August of 2010 and is going to be used as a retreat center. Deo Gratis!!!

Very sad. They've embraced the wretched sterility of neopaganism. They now worship creation rather than the creator. Typical Vatican II breakdown.

You obviously have missed the beauty of creation that surrounds this monastery!
the inspiration of these ladies was there already and the love of God inside them means this place could never be bleak!

This new monastery is the most horrid structure I have ever seen. How could anyone find inspiration in such a bleak place?
