Close to 60 percent of young people who went to church as teens drop out after high school. Now the bestselling author of unChristian trains his researcher's eye on these young believers. Where Kinnaman's first book unChristian showed the world what outsiders aged 16-29 think of Christianity, You Lost Me shows why younger Christians aged 16-29 are leaving the church and rethinking their faith. Based on new research, You Lost Me shows pastors, church leaders, and parents how we have failed to equip young people to live "in but not of" the world and how this has serious long-term consequences. More importantly, Kinnaman offers ideas on how to help young people develop and maintain a vibrant faith that they embrace over a lifetime.

  • You lost me, and im never going back. god is a fraud and this book sounds like more christian money makeing bullshit. If christians really cared about saving the youth, they would give away their selfhelp books, instead of charging for them. What a joke.

  • Con't---Also Christianity is more than silly, it's a fraud---it's also dangerous and psychologically damaging. Your observance that most students in your Christian school are not even Christian is not surprising and quite predictable. It also gives me hope that some day (maybe not in my lifetime) Christianity will be discarded to the dung heap of defunct primitive superstitions where it belongs.

  • @mcgoodle Your equating of human morality with mindless obedience to an unproven, supernatural authority clearly indicates you haven't a clue what term morality even means. Such is the state of intellectual chaos possible only from years of brainwashing by your Christian cult.

Biblical morality does not originate from any "god"---it came from the ignorant, theocratic, atavistic, iron age savages---the who wrote that mess.

  • @sweetsweatyfeet I'm sorry, friend, but without God as lawgiver there can be no such thing as "moral ones." If there is no God, then your "morality" is only an arbitrary list of arbitrary do's and dont's. Animals are amoral, and if you are one of the products of evolution then you too are an animal and have no right to be upset about "immorality." Such an angry young fellow you are; if Christianity is so silly, then you have absolutely nothing to be worried about.

  • I am a Bible teacher in a Christian high school. I actually have very few Christians among my students. After years of teaching high school students the Scriptures, I have finally figured out the reason why they don't want to be Christians. Here it is: American young people want to be their own "god", and they don't want the real God to tell them what to do. "You mean I can't have sex with my girlfriend?" Nope. "Can't smoke pot?" Nope. "Hell is real?" Yep. I tell them the truth and they hate it.

  • Kids are leaving the church in staggering numbers? You ain't seen nothin yet.

  • @potterylady1 And sorry for the typos folks. It's late there and I am trying to focus on the keys lol.

  • Yes it is easy to get lost in it lol. I know. But just don't forget that church is people and people are not perfect. When you get alot of unperfect people in one buliding wooooooooo lol. Yes things won't be all rosy. But just remember Christ. We don't follow people we follow Christ. No ones perfect. Church is just alot of messed up people trying inch by inch to work out strongholds that can be really hard to let go of. Peace :)...;).

  • Many teens and young adults who leave the church have also left Christianity. They have become disgusted by the lies and falsehoods from a neanderthal book of mythology and folklore written by bronze age barbarians. They are the the skeptics, the critical thinkers, the moral ones---and the true heros of civilization and progress.

  • My problem is the complete disagreement among different sects of Christianity. Every group claims to be the right one. And the Catholic church is a different breed altogether. The Pope has some pretty expensive robes and jewelry. Why does he need a bulletproof car? There are just too many discrepancies for me. I'm just going to live a peaceful life.
