The Chinese are embracing Capitalism as fast as humanly possible.
They come to hear the words of the guru they call 'teacher'. He's a self-made millionaire, from selling Amway, short for the American Way: the door-to-door sales of American cosmetics. It's a typical pyramid selling scheme, which relies on the quasi-religious faith of its salesmen. At something akin to a spiritualist meeting, we see thousands of Chinese cheering and singing in an unusually demonstrative way. These people don't just want to be rich, they want a whole new way of life: to care for their parents in their old age, to travel abroad, to live in luxury today. That quest for a better life has boosted Amway's China sales to more than a hundred million dollars. As a brick in the Amway pyramid, salesmen earn thirty times what they used to in the Red Army. And through meetings that look more like self-help groups than pyramid selling, the word is spreading fast. At a time when nothing in China seems certain, these people are looking not to the State but to themselves to find satisfaction: 'Since we started working with Amway we dare to think, to dream and to have'

Doesn't matter to me christo, maybe because I love to ripoff both, the living and the dead and I do so politely, without subtitles. Now, that's professionalism!

@Terratonific Maybe it's because Amway is a ripoff, but maybe because there are no subtitles and most of the dialog is in fucking Chinese.

@ProudConservative Amway is still in UK. It will stay there. They just had to change a few things like they did in America and any other country they go to. They just opened a full expo center in Milton Keynes and London. As far as product pricing, they are more expensive per unit. However, they can be more economical over the long run do to their concentrated nature. Artistry is a top four selling cosmetics firm in the prestige category and Nutrilite a leading supplements maker.

@timmakuk I believe that Amway is no longer able to do business in the UK. I wouldn't say their products are junk, but they are way over-priced (containing huge profits) and their marketing system you have down perfectly.

@cvl85 MLM is a bit of both.. why? Because to be successful it is so difficult that they have to keep you motivated and "indoctrinated" to keep you "faithful" to the company and cause, so they use "mind" control and emotional ways to keep you going!

MLM is not the exact same as a pyramid scheme because with MLM, the average member can get a product. With a pyramid scheme, the average member gets nothing. MLM? Call it independently-organizing advertising and consumption.
