To make stock place chicken bones in a crock pot, fill with water and turn on low over night. If you don't have a crock pot use a stock pot and simmer all day.
Strain out bones, set broth in the fridge to cool over night. The fat will rise to the top and form a hard white layer. Skim this off.
Bring the stock back to a boil and add chopped carrots, potatoes, meat and any other veggies you like.
Add salt, pepper, garlic and other seasonings to taste.
Mix up dumpling recipe and drop on top of the soup. Cover and simmer for 15 min.

Dumpling recipe
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup butter, lard or shortening
1/2 cup cold water
Mix the dry together, cut in butter.
Add water, stir until it just sticks together.

  • i know it may sound weird but when we make this recipe we put in a couple of chopped tomatoes and two jalapenos chopped and two cloves of garlic through a press yummy

  • @dragonflychainsaw Oh I bet that would be good! I'll give it a try. :)

  • Love your videos, I'm new to your collection. Your recipe for chicken and dumplings, would this be something you can?

  • @Delia668 You can't can the dumplings, nothing with starch (flour, pasta, rice) is safe for home canning. BUT you can can the soup part, then just add the dumplings when your heating it up. I do that all the time. :)

  • thanks for the videos. you're living the life were just embarking. Weve sold our home in a modern trendy city and bought a home in GA on land. It just me and my 11 yr old son and we get to learn together but I believe it will be worth it.

  • @MischievousKittie That's great! I hope things are going good for you on your new homestead!

  • Can you use the chicken fat to say, fry potatoes in?

  • "True homesteading" is a mindset coupled with a lot of "try". It is not, therefore, a cookie cutter, one-size-fits-all living arrangement. Homesteading encompasses many forms, depending on where one is on the journey to self-sufficiency and independence. BYW: The Amish use cell phones and have people drive them around in cars as well as rely heavily on Amtrak. They also use modern medical facilities when necessary.
