MechWarrior 2 95 - Installation Guide for XP

An installation guide for MechWarrior 2 on Windows XP. This can work with vista, but the steps are different, and you have no multiplayer except through the dos version.

Q. ATI Rage does it work?
A. No, it does not work without the original hardware.

Q. Does this work on Windows 7?
A. No. Use DOSBOX and a DOS version of the game.

Q. Does 3dfx Work?
A. Yes. It does if you use dgvoodoo, but you will not get as good of quality out of it as the original hardware, and you must have a relatively high end system.

Q. Does Titanium work?
A. Yes, but I do not answer questions with regards to titanium.

Q. Which version should I buy?
A. DOS. 95 versions are hit and miss, DOS nearly always works. See my other video on DOS installation for mech2 for more information.

Q. Where can I obtain a copy of Mech2?
A. Ebay is the best source of copies of mech2. I would advise everyone to avoid amazon as they almost always send the wrong version unless you ask the seller before buying.

Quick Install Guide

1) MechWarrior 2: 95/Vanilla/Netmech/Pentium Non-Retail

1. Install MechWarrior 2
2. Download Slugs patch at
http://www.mech2.org/downloads/Mech2XPv3.exe

3. Open the patch and select the directory you installed MechWarrior 2 in.
4. Set the Compatibility mode to 98 or 95
5. You are done!

2) MechWarrior 2: Pentium Edition

1. Install MechWarrior 2
2. Download and Unzip XVI32

3. Run XVI32
4. Replace all instances of VESA480.DLL to VESA768.DLL in MW2SND.CFG with XVI32.
5. Download and extract the replacement MW2SHELL.DLL, GDI42, VESA768 to your MW2 Dir

6. If you do not have an archiving tool which can access .rar I would suggest that you download an Open Source program called 7-Zip.

7. Set the Compatibility mode for Mech2.exe to 98 or 95.




Multiplayer

If you are seeking multiplayer, the easiest way to play is using the package created by Myg at http://www.mech2.org/downloads/NetmechDos.exe

Netmech 95 does work, but kali.net is the only place to play with it online at this time.

the only way i could get it to work is with the, Mech2XPv3.exe but when i patch mw2 with that then mw2patch.exe, everything is unlocked in single player, is there a way to remove the cheat or whatever it does? its been awhile i cant remember what was allowed for what mission.

@NPHaintgay unlocked everything by using that patch? That honestly is the first I have heard of that happening. Are you sure you aren't using a profile with Enzo or FreeBirthToad ? I don't think I can help you on this one because its not supposed to do that.

@jurassicparkboy i'm sorry but i don't deal with titanium issues normally. If I was to guess you could alter the sound itself through the mixer on windows itself under CD audio or whatever depending on your card. Alternatively turning your sound down in the windows mixer for all sounds might also make a difference. Assuming your using the original CD like you are supposed to you would have a digital and analog plug which goes into the sound card from the drive. Might check to see if thats intact

@SirxMMPD hate to bother you SirxMMPD but i've encountered a bug with titanium causes the music to be VERY loud.... i love the music though... but mechwarrior cant be mechwarrior without the sound. you got any idea on how to fix this? and the worse thing is that you cant adjust the sound volume.... the only way to fix this is to cut off the music... if you put it one block away from mute... its still as loud as before.

@SirxMMPD welll i have the titanium version and it says the same thing it says. The system is not suitible for running on Ms-dos please tell me what to do i have did everything on the compadibilaty mode and it still wont work i have downloaded DOS and still it does not work
