Damn. That's chaotic

god bless al those been both union and confederate that fought at The Battle of the Crater...ans all the other battles...
-
No matter your feelings....This is a great movie.
-
@snakes3425 Well there was fighting all around the trenches and the side of the crater just not shown in the movie where is makes it look like they were just trapped in the crater. They created the crater to make a breach in the Confederate fortifications at Petersburg and were supposed to push through to the the Jerusalem Plank Road, followed by the churchyard and, if possible, Petersburg itself. The crater was actually only 30 ft deep and 120ft wide.
-
@NSA8888 Actually the Confederates won more battles than the Union and they had far better generals than the Union had through the whole war. The Union just won the most importand battles like Gettysburg or Shiloh where if the Confederates had won they would have had a good chance at winning especially at Gettysburg.
-
interesting how they only show Confederate victories, but it was the Union that won the War
-
I still find it hard to believe the Union Army charged right into the crater and yet no one thought to equip the units going in with ladders to climb out of the crater

@Jabthecat Right.
-
@fidomusic right winning a battle is one thing, winning the war is another... see the Cartage vs Rome...
