  • Glad you liked it. It is cheaper to maintain than buying it.

  • I'm glad you liked the video. There are no real rules or recipies except to have the suet or lard and to hold it together. I also just use bird seed that I put in the feeders as well. The suet is great for their feathers.

  • lucky birds!

  • also, are the oats cooked a tad, so they 'expand' as is normally the case with home made oatmeal for breakfast?

  • hi. nice video. thx. I'm a novice. what is the ratio in 'PARTS' (grams could be different as fat is more dense then grains and stuff). what is the suet/fat : other_stuff ratio ? (i mean other_stuff lumped together. eg 1:1 means eg 1 cup of suet : 1 cup containing peanut butter with some bread crumbs and raisins in that SAME cup)..if you know what i mean.

suet novice hear. in oz we get cockatoos, corellas. lorikeets (hopefully they'll come)...

  • Thanks this is really helpfull

  • Is this expensive to maintain or?

  • Thanx for this video!

Tried it and it worked really good!

  • Great to see a video on the process! I make my own suet cakes, too! Crisco is not the same as lard. Crisco is hydrogenated vegetable oil--& not as good for the birds as actual lard. You can buy lard in the oil section of the grocery store--I buy it by the tub for my suet cakes. Lard is probably less expensive than Crisco. I don't melt the lard or peanut butter--I mix it all in my mixer, & spread onto cookie sheets & cut to the size of my square suet cages. My videos show the suet being eaten.

  • our birds love suet too, thank you for the hints on making my own.
