This is actual Film footage taken in and around the Miami and MiamiBeach area of some of the damage caused by this Historical Cat.-4 Hurricane. This storm hit on September 18th, 1926 with little warning as there was only one radio station broadcasting at that time, 560AM WQAM and Richard W.Gray who was the offical in-charge at the local Weather Service Office in Downtown Miami did not issue a Hurricane Warning until 11:PM the night before, but by then gale-force winds were already blowing and it was too late for any of the residents to take any action. A maximum wind speed of 132-MPH was recorded at 7:40AM on the morning of the 18th on MiamiBeach before the anemometer blew away. A low pressure reading of 27.61 inches was recorded at the local Weather Service office in Miami at 6:45AM also on the 18th. MiamiBeach went completely under water and over 300-people were killed. This was the worst Hurricane to ever hit the areas of Miami, MiamiBeach, Hollywood, and Dania to this date (2011), and one of the most intense to ever hit the United States. Anybody know the words to "Moon Over Miami". Stay tuned for part-2.

  • WOW... PHENOMENAL!!! There are so many scenes in this clip that I've never seen before... even portions (between 6:09 - 7:15) that appear to have been shot immediately after the storm passed, while the winds were still high!!!

  • Mike stay tuned, as I still have some more footage from the 1926-storm which I will be uploading in the next day or two.

  • I can hardly wait... some of these scenes are incredible. And the quality is far better than I would have thought. I was looking out from my office window today at the very spot where the Rose Mahony was wrecked!

  • Gee, that's funny! I went to High School with a Rose Mahony. The guys all used to call her Rose Ma-horny.

  • Great historical footage! The 1926 Hurricane was an important event in Miami history. It meant the end of the land boom in South Florida until after WWII.

The University of Miami which had been opened just in 1925 also then began to call itself "The Hurricanes" to remember the storm. Interesting footage!

  • Did she look like a five-masted schooner? LOL

  • Wow dude this is incredible footage...Ive always wanted to see clips of this incredible storm.
