Punk-o-Matic is a flash application/game for making music out of loopable prerecorded tracks. With a given set of 9 drum words, 12 rythm guitar and 10 lead guitar, never longer than four measures, you can make an infinite amount of sentences and songs.

This is the first version of the game made by Evil-Dog. I played a lot as a kid/teenager and there was an option to save your songs as a coded line of text (for example, something like ---a---4--8--b---33---4f---gg--). I have always kept my fours songs preciously into a .txt file. I was about 13 years old at the time (that puts us in 2000), I was listening to Sum 41, The Offspring, Millencolin and playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and 3.

Anyway ten years I'm to format my computer and look what I just found! So I thought of presenting you these. I've loaded them into Punk-o-Matic and all you see me doing here is pressing play while Camstudio2.0 is recording ym screen. The image might seem HDish and better than the web browser based version you remember but that's only because I have downloaded the actual game (Evil-Dog is distributing it on his personal website), maxed the quality and put it on fullscreen.

In a similar kind of way at the time there was also a program called eJay, I don't know if anyone of you ever heard about it. I enjoyed this a lot too but I lost all my songs. I had about two of them.

Now you can also check (I've manage to download it too, in order to be able to play offline) Punk-o-Matic 2 by Evil-Dog (there is also the upcoming Punk-o-Matic Pro)... It is like Punk-o-Matic 1 but ten times more ambitious. It's huge : you have as many instruments as you want you can put in play, hundreds of loops, guitar tunings, you can make your own loops and record actual audio (means you can also sing) and customize your band and instruments. This is kind of overwhelming and I never set myself to study and use it... but I loved the first game so one day I'll try myself at the second.

You can look forward to seeing a progression following the order in which the songs were made. As with everything you get better with repetition, experimentation and practice.
