you are missing the metal vacuum tube. it is designed so that condensation does not get into the vacuum canister

Again folks, I have fixed this. It WAS the port on the side of the carb. I cleaned out the carbon cake and it advances properly.

If you get a chance, maybe make a vid, and point out what port you're talking about specifically. Just so we can get a visual.

Can't. Motor's not in the car anymore. Proper advance will be seen on the timing light. When the motor is revved, the light will climb clockwise on the pulley.

Thought I would let you know that I fixed this. The port on the side of the carb was almost completely blocked with carbon deposits. I cleaned it out with a tiny file and it works perfectly now. And yes, the hose was hooked up to the side of the carb.
