An opportunity arose to acquire an Essel battery locomotive 'Trigger'. This was originally in use at Waikanae near Wellington NZ.

Similar to the Eveready Bunny, this loco just goes and goes and goes. It lifted a fairly heavy load up the reverse curves on the line, displaying only some mild slipping at one point but quickly recovered to complete the run up and back.

  • Well good luck in your efforts, I built a 5/7.25" dual gauge version of a Fowler Resilient that's been running well for the past 18 years. Enjoy the project and it's reward.

  • i too also have an Essel BD70 with green body and yellow beams, lovely engine - love the cuttings on your railway!

  • Thanks for the comment. About 60-70% of my line is in cuttyings, they told me it wouldn't work - but it does - and affords some excellent photo opportunities also. Cheers.

  • That is a nice railway!

  • Thanks, it works for me. Probably unusual to find a model railway that's 80% below ground level.
