My Best Friend - A Nick Jonas Love Story - Chapter 45

I hate to say it, but I like this chapter. It puts Nick and Alex so much into character.

Chapter 45: When The World Comes Crashing Down

Alex had tears in her eyes when we were done singing, and mascara was running down her cheeks. She dried a single tear, pulled the hood up, and walked off the stage. She grabbed her bag on the floor, and stormed out of the auditorium. I knew what I had to do, I had to chase after her, but my feet wouldn't move.
"Go after her!" Percy hissed at me. I would have given him the death glare, but he was right, I had to go after her -- and fast. I ran all I could until I caught up with Alex in the parking lot, I could hear sobs even though the pouring October rain made it very hard. I putted my hand on Alex' shoulder, she jerked around and looked at me with those passionate brown eyes.
"Alex what's wrong?" I tried to hug her but she shook her head.
"I'm leaving."
"What do you mean leaving? Where to?"
"Last year I got a letter from La Sorbonne saying that I had gotten a full scholarship to go study there. I've decided to go." It felt like someone just punched a fist through my chest, I felt my heart crack over, my throat was burning, and I felt warm tears form in my eyes.
"N.. No. You can't just leave, we're not even halfway through the year. This year was supposed to be the best of our lives. The Nick and Alex show." She sighed while a tear ran down her cheek again.
"The Nick and Alex show ended a long time ago," she said with a voice filled with so much sorrow, that it shattered my heart into a million little pieces.
"No. No, it didn't, it's still just us against the world, come on, Alex, don't do this to me."
"There's no us anymore, Nick. I keep doing things for you, I keep waiting that someday you are going to turn back into the guy I once knew. My best friend. But I can't keep waiting for him to come back. Because waiting for him is like waiting for rain in the desert. Useless and disappointing." She turned around to leave but I didn't let her, I grabbed her wrist and jerked her back around to look at me.
"Stay. Please Alex, just stay."
"I always do things for you. This time I'm going to do something for me. Goodbye Nick." And then she left, she didn't turn around to look at me one last time. My best friend was gone forever. The love of my life walked away. As I turned back around to walk inside I tripped over the first step of the stairs, the tears in my eyes had blurred my vision. I ignored the pain of my aching knee.
I heard rushed footsteps, and then an arm resting around my shoulder, as I got soaked by the rain. I looked up and realized it was MacKenzie.
"Did you know?"
"She told us this morning. I'm so sorry, Nick." She sighed deeply and helped me up. We walked up the stairs together, down the hallway and into the auditorium. People stared when we entered with no sign of Alex at all. Just thinking her name made my heart burn, and the tears welled up again.
"When does she leave?" I whispered when Mr. West said it was time to practice a new song. Bad Romance. Great. I hate that song, but okay fair enough. I just lost my best friend forever, so I might as well sing something I hate.
"Saturday morning," Kenz answered with a sad expression in her eyes. Percy, TJ, and Meg came over to stand with us, when we were lining up as a choir.
"I know you hate me, Nick, but I'm sorry she's leaving. You don't deserve to lose her." I sent him a thankful smile.
"You're forgiven, Perce." He smiled back.
"Thanks."
