A former ESL teacher from Chuncheon, South Korea, creates another East meets West pasta dish, this time drawing inspiration from Italy, Russia and Korea. This is a Koreafornian adaptation of Penne ala Vodka, replacing vodka with soju for a Korean kick.

  • Hi Tamara - just discovered your very interesting channel. Just to let you know - I will be posting a link to this video in my next Pastastic newsletter (as I have a 'traditional' penne alla vodka recipe on my site already). Wonderful stuff!

  • @MDIS you know it dont matter bout alcohol content u cook it out....it evaporates o its safe for kids to eat too

  • In Japan , i would normally add a little of sweet cooking alcohol known as MIRIN ( actually and historically , MIRIN was drunk on festivals and special religious and cultural purposes but soon became a culinary addition to remove any fish odour on certain dishes ).

Japanese Sake` is also common in Japanese cooking. From making the famous Teriyaki Sauce , to add balance and power and to heighten the flavor profile. You can try using Sake` as its alcohol level is lower than Korean Soju.

  • exscellent^^i love it^^5*****5

  • i watched your video unintendedly

  • thanks for the intro. Love penne and never thot about using Soju as a sauce base. Will try it

  • Anything that includes cream, tomatoes and noodles has got to be incredible. Thanks for incorporating history into the recipe.

  • That looks wonderful! From the way it looks, it seems possible to develop it into something similar to a ragù-like sauce.

  • Very nice, thanks for another great post! my fav. today. KtC

  • Now I want some pasta...thanks a lot! :P
