This is my Master's Thesis for Helsinki University of Technology, Laboratory of Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing, Finland.
The title is Real-time Implementation of the Virtual Air Slide Guitar.
The synthesis was made with Pure Data and a Naturalpoint TrackIR 3:PRO infra red camera with a modified Optitrack SDK was used for tracking and gesture recognition.

Thanks to Jyri Pakarinen for shooting and editing the video and instructing the thesis.

Cool, congrats! I'd imagine that a horizontal 'tabletop' steel guitar (or hawaiian guitar) would be an easy modification of the same thing (placing the IR camera above a desk) and maybe easier to control. Did you try something like this?
