There's been a bit of discussion that the remixed version of the theme from "The Price is Right" is not as good as the classic theme which was used during all 35 years of Bob Barker's tenure as host.

There are also those out there who believe that the theme from the short-lived 1994 version of the show hosted by Doug Davidson was a good piece of theme music (which, it admittedly isn't). Since a lot of elements from the Davidson version of the show been incorporated into the show over the years, this is a hypothetical piece of footage where the 1994 theme is used in place of the 2007 remixed theme, just to see how it would fit with Drew Carey as host.

Just some notes, it's not perfect, I know you can still hear the regular theme creep in a little bit, but, this video is intended for hypothetical purposes only. Also, I know that you can only hear part of Rich Fields' sign-off, this is because there is an audio error in the original video. It cannot be helped.

Update: Given Roger Dobkowitz' unfortunate departure from the show, I'd like to reinforce the notion that this video is to show how ill-advised the use of the 1994 theme on today's show would be.

  • I absolutely LOVE this version. The original theme will always be an iconic piece unto itself, but the saxophone here makes it a classic unto itself.

  • an almost perfect bidding. wow don't see that alot.

  • Wowsers...that strangely actually fits with the current version of the show.

  • @DLCOrganization thank you!! the original theme is a work of art on it's own, most people can recognize that iconic tune than they can name actual game show hosts. This little mix doesnt even remotely compare

  • I hate CBS and all forms of entertainment for cutting the credits. Cartoon Network doesn't even give you a QUARTER OF A SECOND to view twenty names!

  • Doesn't fit well on the Daytime verson, but would fit PERFECTLY on the Million Dollar Spectaculars.

  • Hey! They used Bob's logo on the ending!

  • I was never a big fan of the 1994 Syndication version of the theme. I don't like the current theme either. Bring back the original version of the TPIR theme.

  • @hipmommy2005 I agree. The '94 version IS WAY BETTER than the classic version!

  • For the record, Kyle, the updated version of the TPIR theme song is a REMAKE -- NOT A REMIX!

However, it must be given due credit that it was apparently the intention of whoever was particularly involved from either the behalf of the musical director or (a group of people with at least a GRAIN of integrity from) FremantleMedia that the theme song should not deviate from the original.

They knew what was up, because if the theme changed TOO MUCH or AT ALL, TPIR would be... OVER!

  • Ghost Child,

Have you ever taken the time to REALLY gather the magnitude of how the original arrangement was, bassline, instrumentation and all?

The original TPIR theme is probably regarded by many as the greatest game show theme in the WORLD ever to be composed. It gives more people joy than even the winning contestants. It gives so many people fond memories of what TV and what life in general used to be like. Today's generation of TV AND music has drawn MAJOR BLANKS for people.
