To me, this method looks more difficult. If I recall correctly I got it by holding the super jump and waiting for a second to spawn. You should be able to jump, super jump (and use both since you're on the one that spawned while you wait) and use your boost. This gives you more than enough height to get there.

I wanted to line up myself up with the pillar, but I was too close to the wall and the camera kept spinning all over the place... I eventually gave up and moved away from the wall. :)
