FIRST OFF: I WOULD HAVE USED PADAK IF I HAD IT!!! Listen I know i should've used this and used that. Trust me, i wouldve, but being in the location and situation I was in, I couldn't. At this time I was living in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I was lucky enough to receive 2 green papayas in the mail without it having them rot after traveling 2 weeks in boxes. 2nd, Kyrgyzstan does not eat anything spicy compared to this. I had to order most of the stuff: The shredders, the morter and pestal, the shrimp paste, etc. I'm pretty sure I was the only Lao person in that whole country.

Cooking Papaya Salad. I don't measure using units, only eye.
1 Really big spoon
5 Fresh chili peppers
5 dried chili peppers
Garlic
half spoon of Shrimp Paste
Smash
Add papaya
lots of sliced tomatoes
1 spoon of sugar
half spoon of MSG
1 lime or lemon
3-4 spoons of Fish sauce
Smash
and fix to taste preference

This was actually made to show my cousin how I Made my Lao Papaya Salad.
Made some fried eggs and fried rice to eat along with it. It was delicious in the beginning but the ending was a different story haha

  • @va42282 MSG is at 355 and fish sauce is at 550. you mustve just skipped randomly. it's ok though, i would too just to see the end product haha

  • where did u order morter and pestal? i live in japan and i cant find anything out here for lao food

  • @kimtan2003 are u in mainland or okinawa? are u military with a APO address? i ordered at a website cuz i was military and it was like shipping to the states but i think they'll do international too. try google and search for temple thai or import food.

  • Funny I was looking for how to make padek but came across this. I made myself some Tom mak houng verrry spicy I under estimate the lil guy boy I was wrong. i know how you feel it sucks not to have everything prep when cooking. At least you went your way to get what you nd for your papya salad. Great video...be safe and eat more Laos food! ;)
