  • Sorry man, not feeling it. These aren't 80s enough. You were headed there, but it seems like you chickened out. 80s is all about TOO MUCH.

    You need WAY more reverb on the snare. Make the gate crash down on it. Compress the whole thing until the decay is barely noticeable! Then reverb THAT, and you're 80s.

  • From personal experience, I feel it is more successful when you layer snares to get a fatter sound. Then, just cut down the mids on the snare, just a little bit, and raise the low frequency, then the highs, a little over the low for a more crisp sound. The same with the kick. Then, just lower the pitch a little bit, and you have fat 80's sounding drums.
