@norfolkdash9 no this is the crankshaft. this is what the pistons hook up to. a cam shaft controls the valves

check the vibration dampner,torsional vibration may have caused this problem

My brother was at his friends diesel shop, a guy pulled up with a 5.9 cummins, it had a broken crank in it, he said he was driving along and heard a huge bang sound, and when the engine idles it knocked, busted the crankshaft the same place this one is broken, but he drove it to the repair shop like that.

More from last comment:...They Had the nerve to require payment from the truck shop that had the 5k rebuild done....Even though it clearly blew the motor...End result was....Cat payed 1/3, truck shop payed 1/3 and owner payed 1/3...Not including the 5k cat screwed outa the truck shop....Cats mostly Chinese parts now anyway so looks good on them....

.....Not to bad a break as the cranshaft and parts stayed inside the engine...lol...
...Seen what i recall was a 3408 cat. lose its internals after havin the pump done at a CAT dealer.......Blew the govenor spring and part of the casting of the top of the pump and it went max rpm's..all the fuel it could get...Grenaded the block...The oil was still boiling in the pan an hour later....The cat dealer admited wrong doin untill thier lawyers got in on it....

The tractor this was out of looked like it just came off the line,every part looked like new.Didn't see the hour meter. Hard to believe, but this was absolutely
running like that.They couldn't figure the sound out so the engine was pulled and of course i had to some video of it. The crank just spent a year outside in a Canadian winter so i will bring it in and make another video for laughs!
Hmmm i do have some jb weld!

I checked for the running broken crank video ,but it is before it broke.Too bad

This motor was running with the crank like that with an odd sound ,hard to figure out.I have a short vid of it running i will try to find!
