In 1984, Naomi Uemura perished after becoming the first person to reach the summit alone in the winter. Here is a segment produced by Mark O'Brien for Alaska's People, an award winning statewide television show produced by KIMO-TV, Anchorage, Alaska in the 1980's.

  • I was Naomi's pilot, shown here on the video. I had a great time talking with him for the few days prior to flying him to the Kahiltna glacier.

  • Dr. UEMURA is still alive, in my heart.

Especially, Japanese people believe he is alive.

    He is the God.

  • Every man have desires to find himself....

  • extece, he lived his life fully and inspired so many people. if you think staying alive is the most important, then i'm sure you can easily find billions of mortals that agree with you.

  • He also died for no purpose. Tell me, did he die to save another life, or in the name of advancement for the human kind. No. Another attention seeking adrenalin junkie bites the dust. Yes, a "Tremendous feat" , but what for? a waste of life.

  • @sugimitsu38 He is the GOD? There is only one god and does not reside in Japan.

  • Thanx! He is definitely one of my heroes!

  • whoa so is mine

  • MY NAME IS MCKINLEY

  • BEST!
