Books are in a conflicted state. Should they still exist in a digital era? Will they all be replaced by Kindles and Nooks? These questions dominate the discussion of books in our time. A select group of artists, who use books as their medium, engage this discussion from another angle. From pop culture pop-ups, to surreal sculptural stories, to reformations of antique sacred texts, these creators re-envision what the experience of a book can be. At times playful, and other times profound, this episode explores the boundaries of one of the most important human creations.

Not to mention, there will never be such a simple technology with the ability to transport us anywhere and everywhere. Books need no electricity, no battery, no LCD or eInk (although the hallway light, a flashlight, or candles have been known to come in handy). They need no flash or java plugins. The need no expensive gadgetry of any kind.

Yet...BOOKS allow our imaginations to soar....for hours at a time.....worlds evolve in an instant, and live in our minds...forever ....where ever we are...

Every new technology, there is this old refrain.."________will be the end of books!" First it was microfiche/microfilm, then CDrom, then DVDs, then the internet....now its eBooks. Look, there will always be a need for each of these different medium...Books will not be replaced. There is just nothing like the tactile experience, the touch and feel, smell and sight of paper, the ability to write notes in the margins, this can not be replaced with an ereader... I LOVE my NOOKTABLET!! AND my books.

Well, I personally think we need books for hundreds of thousands of years to come. But we cannot ignore the eventual passage of time and the advancement of technology over the years. Man, this only complicates things...
