In 2020, a successful government policy of compulsory euthanasia for the over-75s is just reaching its ten year anniversary. On the morning of his 75th Birthday, John is waiting for a cheque from his son that will pay the fee to save his life. The longer he waits, the more he wonders if the cheque will ever come.
