He is referring to the monster movies of his youth, in the 50's (Creature From The Black Lagoon, for example). He was a big fan of them as a kid, because they were supposed to scary, but wound up coming off more like comedy, and he liked the cheapness of the production values and acting. I believe him when he says he didn't continue watching movies much after he got busy with his music, aside from porn, or course. He wasn't a consumer of popular culture as an adult.

@jacmeade he feels like he is being interrogated, which he is. The cop is using a police interview style. There's no humour, no icebreaking.

@ytuseruber It doesn't seem like there was any reason for him to have to disliked the cop (he is one one the best interviewers I've seen Zappa with) but he really doesn't seem to be having as good a time as he did with a lot of far less intelligent people interviewing him. Maybe he was just having a bad day. Sounds like his life was a lot more intense and stressful than I would have guessed.
