In this video clip, Johnetta Cole briefly describes a few challenges of growing up as an African American female.

A pioneer and role model for African American women across the country, Johnnetta Betsch Cole is the 14th president of Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her career as a college and university professor and administrator spans over three decades, after making history in 1987 by becoming the first African American woman to serve as president of Spelman College. Her groundbreaking career has taken another notable step when she became the first African American woman to serve as Chair of the Board of United Way of America.
