On a field trip to the Gibbons Conservation Center in Santa Clarita, CA with our Anthropology Professor, Micheal Merrifield, from Saddleback College, we were treated to a lecture from the director and founder of the "GCC", Alan Mootnick. This is just a portion of his lecture that would turn out to be the last time he shared his words and wisdom in regards to the specialness of the Gibbon with students from Saddleback. Sadly, Professor Merrifield shared with us in class this morning the passing of Mr. Mootnick. I am certain that he will be greatly missed.

  • It is interesting to see how different people perceive others. When I listened to his words that day, I heard a gentle soul expressing great passion and desire to make sure that no one and nothing would be allowed to threaten or harm the gibbons. When you put your life and whole heart into something or someone that you love, you can get very protective. I have two children and I am certain that I have exhibited the exact same demeanor before.
