This Fond Farewell to the "Energizer Bunny of Steam" is a collection of photos that I took of the Milwaukee Road #261 as it pulled various excursions. I tried to include more photos of crew people also since they were the real reason #261 ran so well all these years. The music behind the photos I thought was appropriate. I used "Loss" from the Broadway Show "Blast". The title and song say it all. I know that "Amazing Grace" was a bit schmaltzy but what the heck. Thanks to all involved with the Milwaukee #261 over the years, it was a Great Ride. Good Luck in future endeavours. Milwaukee 261 R.I.P.

  • I guess this should be changed now to "WELCOME BACK #261 - The Next 15 Years". It was announced on May 8, 2010 that the Friends of the 261 bought the #261 from the National Railway Museum in Green Bay. The intent is to rebuild the #261 and run it again in excursion service. GREAT NEWS !!!

  • its really sad how much work and effort these groups have to continually go through to keep the last of these engines alive!!! Such an important part of American history and such beautiful machines! I'm glad the NS is going to reopen their Steam Program, so important to keep these engines running! I really hope to see some engines like the N&W 611 back in action someday. If you can support the different organizations that maintain and restore these engines please do and if you already do thanks

  • @kschmidt626 well thats one less steamer that would berustin away in a museum haha great to here shes back

  • RIP 261, hopefully someone will buy you and return you to your former glory, God bless Milwaukee Road 261, I bid thee a sulute. :(

  • Steam engines are like babies we love them we care for them they let us know when the are happy or sad and in my opinion each and every steam engine diserves a chance to share its story and be happy one more because that is better for them and for us besides like us i dont think they are happy with being stored away or sitting idle in a museum. What would they give to be out on the iron one more time. Long live steam and the men abd women who keep them with us.

  • @PetersTrainz101 Well you will have to wait at least another 15 years. The National Railway Museum sold the #261 to Friends of the 261 and it is being rebuilt right now to run again. Hopefully it will be steaming down the rails again by Fall of 2011. Great news about a Lionel version. I need an N Scale version, with sound please

  • friends of 261.com please
