This video shows the Gpredict satellite tracking and orbit prediction program running on my old Asus Eeepc 701 first generation netbook with Ubuntu linux 9.04.
Gpredict is free and open source software available for linux, BSD, Windows and Mac, see http://gpredict.oz9aec.net/

  • Have you experienced any RFI issues with the Eee PC? I'm trying to find a machine for use in the shack; using my old PowerMac G5 and even my new-ish MacBook hasn't really worked out.

  • @mstyne I didn't notice any problems but I really haven't used the Eeepc much together with the radio. Other computers are doing fine, though there is some noise when the radio is connected to computer via USB and computer sends commands.

  • @oz9aec Yeah, USB line noise is really hard to avoid it seems. I have a cheapo USB link cable to my Icom 706 and it's hardly worth hooking up given the noise it adds.

Thanks for all your great videos, keep up the good work! And thanks for gpredict, while I'm at it!

  • @mstyne Thanks for the kind words. I am finishing 3 new satellite videos that I will upload next week so stay tuned :)

  • Nice! It seems the map is lagging a bit when you increase the throttle at 3:20

  • Indeed. When the integration steps become too high for the CPU, the algorithm automatically skips some steps to maintain responsiveness of the application.
