If you're serious about e-commerce you're much better off building a custom site from the ground up as the mysql tables in products such as Zen, OScommerce etc are not good for Google that's why you find very few of these sites in the top rankings, which is amazing when you consider how many people use them, but that it part of the reason why Google dislikes them.

I've used oscommerce a couple of times and have recently discovered zen cart.

It is so much better.
