Hi, I agree with you, however that is all that we had available at the time.

We have recorded more videos since and used improved sound equipment.

Glad that you have enjoyed watching.

Fred is still fit and healthy at 92 yrs young.

    Best Wishes,

    Ron (Fred's son-in-law).

  • Loved the video.

I would loved to of heard more.

Both my Grandfathers, all my Uncles and my Father served in the Royal Navy during the war. Dad was on the Malta convoy.

    God bless them all.

  • Hi Fred,

I plan to record a few more videos of Fred Brindleys wartime memories in the next few weeks. Fred recently celebrated his 91st birthday and his memories of WW2 are still very clear.

    Best Wishes,

    Ron (his son-in-law)

  • @vonskrappes l very much look forward to hearing more, but please try to improve the sound quality if you can. At least get a proper external microphone that you can place on a solid surface because built in microphones pick up all the noise of the machine they're in, plus the sound of fingers tapping on it etc. Your father-in-law's memory is clear and deserves similar clarity in the recording.

  • My dad was on the Duke of York, and i have his medals from the 2nd world war, and a postcard taken in Tokio bay 1939.

  • Hi Fred

Thank you fof making this video. My father Fred Reader was on the Duke of York and it's very interesting to hear your memories of the Battle of the North Cape and your memories of life on that ship. I've read many accounts of the Battle but none as interesting as your first hand account.

    Many thanks.

  • @vonskrappes A belated 92nd Happy Birthday to Fred. Keep the flag flying. Look forward to the next videos.

  • At school we had a physics teacher who'd been a RN radar technician on the Arctic convoys. Some would try to get him reminiscing about his experiences just to avoid studying because. once started, he could go on for hours, but I was genuinely interested in his stories for their own sake. He was at the Battle of North Cape. We are fast losing a generation who lived through times we are fortunate to have avoided. I have the utmost respect for what they did. We forget history at our peril.
