Using our home-made chainsaw sawmill and 3 man crew, pines damaged in the Jan. '09 ice storm are being sawn into 6" house logs and dimension lumber for the future log cabin of Travis Creasy, son of Raymond Creasy, creator of the mill. The 6 hp Stihl chainsaw with 20" bar and a Granburg ripping chain make a very smooth cut. It's portable, light-weight, made from some recycled parts, and was much more affordable than a portable band saw sawmill.

  • would you be interested in giving the plans away for this mill?

  • @TheDudeRulez09 Thanks for your interest. It's still evolving, being improved, and never had any plans. It'll do a 10 foot long log, which sometimes we think could be longer. The part that the saw clamps to was a recycled garage door "opener", and so was built to fit that. We don't have a welder ourselves, so most of the frame was done years ago. Additions now are bolted on, uses the expanded metal with holes (wrong term I know) for supports or beefing up to keep it from flexing. more later..

  • @sueraymond ..adding the adjustable wheels (like the ones for camper tongues) aid in moving it around. It's not very heavy, so if you do bigger logs, you might want to go up from the 1" sq. tubing used. The log dogs were removed from chain saws - the teeth that grab the log when sawing on the front of the motor. When "dogged" down they hold the log in place. We had some old screw type clamps we added for the adjustable placement of the logs. 4x4's under the log, stepped up, help roll the logs.

  • @sueraymond The winch on the sliding platform for the saw was a tremendous addition, as the ease at which the saw can move, and the smoothness, improved dramatically.

  • one of the best set ups I've seen yet. Much more user friendly than nearly all ive seen. Great piece of home engineering.

  • i HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING chainsaw sawmill to build > i have about 30 hrs in of all types. This is genius. . I would buy the plans for this mill if you decide to draw them up... GREAT jOB..

  • thank you!! The weather has been too poor for further work on the cabin. We will continue showing via video how the project goes.
