  • hugely underrated album. i love Bartender and the whole album

  • thank you guys this is a great discussion ive had many times, dave isnt the best but he is my favorite..for his unique approach to the guitar his wicked chord variations and like you said his ability to create the rhythmic pieces and still sing kicks my ass every now and then, i know how to play almost all his songs, but i never get tired of them...i believe as much time he puts into his lyric writing he does with the guitar tabs

  • Sure, we can all play Dave's songs or whatever, but could we write them? Play them with the passion he does? No, he is truly one of a kind.

  • i feel like we can just all agree that dave matthews is amazing and the whole band is extremely musicaly gifted. thats all that matters.

  • I've always loved Busted stuff. Everyday wasn't as good as their other stuff, but then they quickly made a new album, that brought the old awesome DMB back, busted stuff is amazing, like UTDAD, Crash and BTCS,

  • well, the album is great, but - as for me - I've heard The Lillywhite Sessions first, and just used to the versions on "Lillywhite..." album.

  • .........You need to listen to some more guitarists.

  • I think the Stone is one of his hardest. But yeah, he is a master at rhythm and unique with his percussive strumming with how he mutes strings. He is the most influential on my writing of songs (Lennon being the second).

  • yea you have me there.

rethinking there are a lot of better players, Jerry Cantrell, Mike Ness, etc.

i thought the Stone was kind of easy but he is a great rhythm player you have to admit

  • What about David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Warren Haynes, and Trey Anastasio?

I mean, he's a great rhythm guitar player, but he isn't a master of the instrument. I can play anything that Dave can play, and exactly how he plays it. A lot of his stuff is hard (the Stone, Captain, So Much To Say, Tripping Billies, Two Step, #34, Recently). but there are a lot better players. However, not as many that can write as good as he can on the guitar. His ability to write those rhythmic pieces is amazing.
