Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is without doubt one of the five great classical composers. The others: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert.

@Sviolinist Do you know why? I feel like if he's a transitional composer, between baroque and classical, then why don't period performers play his music in the tuning of the time? Or was the tuning of the time still 415?

@dbrcarson Yes, it is standard procedure, even for a classical composer. CPE Bach isn't exactly a Classical composer, though. I would say he is right in between Baroque and Classical. Some of his music has Classical elements, but not quite Classical. I don't think anyone will argue that.

...Non esistevano "geni", o compositori "immortali", solo (piu' o meno bravi o competenti) artigiani dell' arte musicale. In questa luce, W.F. Bach, CPE Bach, JS Bach....o Nardini (!), sono tutti sullo stesso piano. Non penso che la musica davvero brutta sarebbe potuta sopravvivere fino ad oggi.
