Jay is playing a solo on his new custom hvdrum (High Volume) by Val Schaff. He is playing the snare solo "Old-fashion Innerbeat" by George Guest of the Innerbeat Drum School in PA. Jay is 13 years old and about to enter the 8th grade (just answering in advance a couple of frequently asked questions).

  • I've always wondered....How is Jay on Mallets?

  • @darknight1027 He is a good mallets players: better than average given his age group I would suspect.

  • How about TSU or Southern HBCU Band

  • @andreboy10 If that is what Jay wants to do, then fine. I love SU's band and like TnSU's. Jay will likely go into a program that is more orchestral based, that is if he wants to major in music/percussion. By the way, I know people that have played in the bands that you mentioned. Jay has been exposed to HBCU bands and show-style drumming.

  • alright it's now the summer before his freshman year... what's he gonna play?! also, what corps is he gonna do? you all live in tenn, correct? SCV is in cali... so where is he gonna play?

  • @minimeiskool We still plan to allow him to audition for SCV at some point when he is older, but still while in high school- probably for the 2013 season, and after a year with a minor corps.

  • He is also "probably" being forced to: 1. eat his veggies 2. go to church 3. go to school 4. do his homework 5. have good hygiene 6. get haircuts, well I guess not, LOL! 7. go to bed by 10 pm on school nights 8. get off the XBox if homework isn't done 9. be respectful, especially to adults 10. dress appropriately Well, I've got to go now. I have to unchain Jay and get him out of the dungeon so that he can practice percussion. LOL! JK! Thanks for watching!
  • he's probably being forced by this "oldchops" guy to play against his will.

  • @ajcf1995 University of Southern Mississippi uses them. Otherwise a great question, maybe they don't have the money for the conversion. Have had 2 high school bands ready to "pull the trigger" when the funds they were counting on were cut. So, I want to say the economy has something to do with it, as well as many people who don't like a true snare drum sound.....think they are to wet sounding.

  • hows come i never see other bands using the hv snare in their drumline??

  • @chsneary Not quite correct in the price, $150 will turn a drum into an HV, but if you want a new finish on the drum brings it up to $200 or if it will be a lacquered finish to $250 add $25 -$30 both ways for shipping now you are getting near the $300 mark. Just to clarify, no flaming intended.

  • @TheColbles2009 you can send in your pearl drum if you want to and they will turn it into a HV drum for $300
