Energy Generating Footpath Blocks

Humans themselves generate electricity! Places like Tokyo, where the footpaths are crowded with millions of people everyday will benefit most. The footpath will be lined by thousands of little 'energy' blocks that absorb energy when a walker places his foot on it and converts simple mechanical downward motion into electricity(like a motor working backwards). These blocks will be small so every step counts. The movements will be so small that humans will not trip or fall. However, when this effect is compounded over millions of people and a large area, the energy generated will be phenomenal.
