Senna (the master) is chasing Nelson Piquiet in the John Player Special Lotus Renault 1986.

These drivers were genuine heroes with no fear at all and a big big heart. Listen to the engine noise and look at the skills the driver need to have to keep this beast on the road. These engines had up to 1400 Bhp.

  • I was 10 but remember it all like yesterday. `86 was a vintage year. The best I have seen. Words just cannot do justice to the level of competition : Senna, Prost, Mansell, Piquet, Rosberg, Berger, Alboreto, Boutsen, Patrese etc

When men were men. No paddle shift, 1000+ BHP. Minimal aero. Amazing.

Don't get me wrong I reckon Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso would hold their own

but this was the time. It can never be touched.

  • For me F1 cars looked their best in the mid 80's with the low rear spoiler and now still fattish nose cone, particularly the black and gold Lotus. Just watched the Senna film - go & watch it, its ace

  • It was indeed a very special year in F1, very competitive with the number of teams and drivers, and on some great tracks too.

  • the most beutifulest car ever, wot a shame f1 has become soo shit n cars sooooooooooo fucking ugly

  • @switchbladeguy Yeah... as far as I can remember, the regulation which limited the number of cylinders to 6 and their capacity to 1,5 liters came exactly with the turbo era.

  • @ultrahenk Cool thanks :)

  • @switchbladeguy Yep, also 4-in-lines (BMW, Hart, Zakspeed) and V8s (Alfa Romeo).

  • The cars back then had turbocharged 1.5 liter V6 engines right?

  • @MrYambaTime That is by far the coolest thing I have heard in months.

  • I'm proud to say I made the exhausts for last years Lotus Renault, they didn't do as well as I would've liked. But I can say, Bruno Senna raced with my exhausts and that's a great feeling to have. In just a little way i've been part of the Senna family racing history.

  • @lGuelfi25 ... Senna the master could do that ......... easily.

  • What a fucking lap, RIP to the best racing driver of all time.
